Ever wondered what happens when an MCS Network mobile engineer arrives at your home or campsite? We spent a day with Tom Mitchell, one of our senior certified mobile technicians covering Hampshire and West Sussex, to see how mobile workshop vans deliver dealership-quality servicing straight to customers' doorsteps.
07:30 – Van Preparation & Instrument Calibration
Tom’s morning begins at his mobile workshop van—a custom-fitted Ford Transit stocked with over 600 specialist spare parts, gas pressure gauges, digital damp meters, and torque wrenches. Before setting off, Tom logs daily calibration records to ensure all moisture testing instruments are accurate within ±1%.
09:00 – Full Annual Habitation Check in Winchester
Tom’s first appointment is a 2022 Swift motorhome parked on a customer’s suburban driveway. For the next three hours, Tom works methodically through MCS Network’s comprehensive 66-point inspection checklist.
- Moisture Mapping: Checking over 40 distinct reading zones across roof junctions, window frames, and wheel arches using both radio-frequency non-invasive scanners and deep-pin probes.
- Gas Soundness Testing: Performing a 5-minute pressure drop test on the LPG manifold and testing the carbon monoxide safety cut-offs on the Combi boiler.
- 12V & 230V Diagnostics: Testing RCD breaker trip times, checking leisure battery health under a simulated load, and inspecting cable insulation.
"The best part of mobile servicing is direct communication with the customer. I can show the owner exactly what I’m testing, explain how appliances work, and answer questions without service desk gatekeepers."
13:00 – Urgent Campsite Call-out in the New Forest
A family touring in a Bailey caravan had their water heater solenoid valve fail, leaving them without hot water. Because MCS vans carry dedicated manufacturer components, Tom arrives on-pitch, isolates the 12V supply, replaces the faulty valve, and restores hot water in under 45 minutes.
16:00 – Digital Reporting & Customer Debrief
At the end of every inspection, Tom uploads digital test sheets directly to the customer portal. The owner receives an immediate PDF report detailing all moisture percentages, safety certificates, and any advisory notes before Tom packs up and heads to his next destination.
With engineers like Tom stationed across the UK, MCS Network brings expert mechanical and habitation care directly to you—saving you the hassle of towing to remote dealerships.
